7th Grade ELA Week at a Glance

Week 7 will be a week of daily challenges. There will be no formal work this week. May 11 - Spend some time outdoors today. Write a description of something you saw or did. May 12 - Look through old photos from your childhood and/or ask someone to share stories about your childhood. Share your favorite picture and/or story.  May 13 - Solve the following riddle from The Hobbit: Q:  What is being spoken of in the following verse? Thirty white horses on a red hill, First, they champ, Then they stamp, Then they stand still. May 14 -  Show your appreciation of someone you love by doing something for them, giving them a homemade present, complimenting them or spending some time with them. Share what you did in the comments.  May 15 - Try to find the funniest (clean) video on YouTube.  Post it on Padlet. You will read a story all week and answer the questions embedded in the story. This story will be used in assignments for the next few weeks. Monday: Read pages 1-4 of  “The Most Dangerous Game”. Assignments for all week. 1. Continue to write in your journal (separate post). 2. Write "The Interlopers" from a viewpoint of one of the characters, Ulrich or Georg. Writing Prompt: You have just read a short story, “The Interlopers”. Saki writes this short story from an omniscient point of view.  Rewrite the short story from the perspective of one of the characters while using first-person point of view. Monday Reread “The Interlopers.” Watch a video on suspense and notice HOW authors create suspense. Make notes on how Saki creates suspense within the text.  Tuesday  Prepare to write an ending to the short story . Their ending must include... Summer is finally here!! This is our last week. Award's Day is on Monday at 9:30 AM in the auditorium . Students will spend the final week working on their plays and performing them on Wednesday and Thursday.  The last day of school is Thursday, May 23rd . It is a 60% day .

NWEA is here! Students will take the Spring ELA NWEA on Monday and Tuesday . Please, come prepared. As a final group project before the end of the year, students will write and perform a play. Therefore, students will review plays in preparation for this project. Then, they will team up to begin working on their plays that they will perform next week. Some classes may still be working on the Narrative Project or finishing up activities related to The Outsiders .  Friday is Field Day for students.

 Students will take the Math Part 1 exam on Tuesday and the Math Part 2 exam on Wednesday of this week.  Please, make every effort to be here on time and well-rested.  Students will finish reading  The Outsiders this week. In addition to reading this novel, students will continue working on their  Narrative Project ; this is due on Friday by midnight and is an assessment grade.

 Students will take the ELA Reading exam on Tuesday and the ELA Writing exam on Wednesday of this week.  Please, make every effort to be here on time and well-rested.  The rest of the week will be spent reading The Outsiders and completing activities related to the chapters. Students will read to Ch. 8 this week. In addition to this novel, students will begin working on their Narrative Project . Students will plan an in-depth narrative and write it for a test grade . The assignment is due May 10th .

"Stay gold, Ponyboy." - Johnny Cade from The Outsiders Students will begin reading the classic novel, The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton this week.  Using this book, students will practice skills related to narrative, vocabulary, and argument. While reading this novel, the students will keep a journal of their reactions and feelings about the events of the book. The first part of each day will be spent practicing targeted skills on the computer. On Wednesday, they will take the last cycle quiz of the year on Cycle 14 .

On Monday, students will practice recognizing theme, vocabulary skills, and argument in stations. Tuesday will be spent reviewing poetry and compare/contrast with two texts. Also, they will start stations that they will complete on Wednesday after the last cold quiz of the year,  Cold Quiz 4.4 . To end the week, students will write the last  on-demand for the year on Thursday. Enjoy your holiday on Friday!

Our week will be spent reviewing skills and concepts related to the writing process, narrative, and poetry.  To start off the week, students will write an on-demand for a test grade on Monday . They will revise and edit this essay over the course of two days. In addition to this, we will review the most missed questions from the last cold assessment. On Thursday , students will take Cold Quiz 4.3. To wrap up the week, they will review poetry, narrative and then write two short narrative pieces. Cycle 13 Vocab. Quiz will be taken on Friday .

Students will spend this week reviewing literature and informational standards using short stories, poems, and articles. They will practice recognizing and understanding the function of figurative language, dialect, character interactions, and argument. On Friday , students will take Cold Assessment 4.1 .

We will continue practicing skills we have learned all year. This week will focus on informational texts and skills such as main idea, text structures, and finding evidence. Students will complete informational stations on Tuesday. Then, on Wednesday ,  Mini-Assessment 4.1 will be taken. The students will write an on-demand essay on Thursda y and complete stations on Friday to revise their essays. Cycle 12 vocab. quiz will be taken as well.

Welcome Back!! We hope you are  refreshed and ready for the last stretch. The next few weeks will be a review of lessons we have learned throughout the year. Students will review literary analysis, argument and narrative writing this week. They will practice vocabulary and multiple choice as well. Cold Quiz 4.1 will be taken on Thursday and an on-demand writing will be written on Friday .
