Week 8

"The Most Dangerous Game" is a classic suspense story about a hunter becoming the prey. Students will read this story on Monday. Using this story, students will practice inferring, recognizing suspense, figurative language and symbolism. They will determine the purpose of these devices as well. On Thursday and Friday ,  students will take Cold Assessment 3.2 .

Week 7

Students will take a quiz on Chapters 5-7 of The Call of the Wild on Monday. The rest of the week will be a review of standards RI and RL 7.1-4 and RI 7.8. They will read excerpts and short stories to practice skills and review topics such as recognizing theme, character interactions, vocabulary, argument and summarizing.  On Wednesday, they will take a cold quiz . To end the week, students will take Cycle 10 Vocab Quiz and write an on-demand essay .

Week 6

The Call of the Wild will be completed this week. Students will begin the week with a quiz on Chapters 1-4. Then, they will read Chapters 5-7 and review skills such as conflict, summary, and gathering evidence with these chapters.  On Friday students will write an on-demand essay  for the book. In addition  to this book, students will begin reading O'Henry stories and learn about peripeteia. They will use these stories to practice other reading skills as well. On Thursday, students will take a cold quiz .

Week 5

“He had been suddenly jerked from the heart of civilization and flung into the heart of things primordial.”  ―  Jack London,  The Call of the Wild We will read The Call of the Wild this week. Students will read the chapters and learn/practice skills associated with each chapter. They will learn about anthropomorphism and practice recognizing the impact of conflict and point of view. In addition to this book, they will learn about sonnets. There will be a cold quiz  on Wednesday , and they will take Cycle 9 Vocab Quiz on Friday .
