Week 9

" Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing. " - Helen Keller We will continue reading T he Story of My Life (Chapters 9-14) this week. Students will begin reading The Miracle Worker, which is a play based on Helen Keller's life.  Using this play and the book, students will practice RL 7.5, RL 7.7 and RL. 7.9. These standards focus on structure and compare/contrast. In addition to these skills, students will practice analyzing central idea development. On Wednesday, students will take Cold Quiz 1.3.

Week 8

" The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched - they must be felt with the heart." - Helen Keller We are going to shift our focus from literary texts to informational texts this week by reading Chapters 1-8 of Helen Keller's The Story of My Life . Using this book, students will practice central idea, summary, and a variety of vocabulary strategies. They will have a cold quiz on Tuesday. 

Week 7

WELCOME TO SCIENCE FICTION WEEK!! Students will focus on science fiction texts this week. Using this genre, they will practice RL 7.3: how literary elements interact. Ray Bradbury is the focus author of this week. We will read two of his stories: "Dark They Were and Golden-Eyed" and "There Will Come Soft Rains." On Friday, we will have a cold quiz and writing assessment grade.

Week 6

We are over halfway finished with this 9 weeks. Time is flying by, and students are ready for their first cold assessment. It will be on Monday of this week. Students will have the entire block to finish their test. On Tuesday, students will write an on-demand. Then, the rest of the week will be spent revising and editing the on-demand for a grade. In addition to this, any assignments from The Call of the Wild will be finished. On Friday, a quiz on Chapters 5-7 will be given.
