Week 8

Students have followed the journey of four amazing women in Hidden Figures . They will finish the compelling story this week. As a culminating activity, students will complete a project on the book for an assessment grade .  Students will begin the project this week and present it next week. The other half of class will be spent reviewing skills learned throughout the first semester in stations.

Week 7

We hope you enjoyed your Thanksgiving break and are ready for the last stretch before Christmas break! Students will continue reading Hidden Figures this week.In addition to this text, students will be exposed to cultural and historical events from the same time period as the book. We will review structure, vocabulary, central ideas, arguments and interactions between individuals, events, and ideas. In addition to language standards students will practice writing thesis statements and meaningful commentary. On Thursday , students will take a cold quiz . Then, on Friday, students will complete stations to review theme and interactions.

Week 6

“Katherine Johnson knew: once you took the first step, anything was possible.”  -  Hidden Figures On Monday, students will write an on-demand for a test grade . Students will begin reading Hidden Figures  on Tuesday. Using this book we will practice determining theme, analysing interactions, and recognizing how structure helps create meaning. In addition to these skills students will begin tracing and evaluating arguments about important topics. Next week will be Thanksgiving break!

Week 5

Multiple perspectives and cause and effect will be our focus this week. Students will analyze multiple texts about World War II and other wars. They will determine the motivations of people and examine the cause and effect relationship of actions and events. Students will discuss and write about these topics to condense their ideas and conclusions. Students will take the Cycle 6 vocab. quiz on Friday .
