Week 2

The Fall NWEA for ELA will be given Monday - Tuesday (24-25) of this week. 

Central Idea and Summary are the focus in class on Wednesday and Thursday. Mini-lessons on these topics will be followed up by guided and individual practice so that students can practice the skills. 

Chapters 3-4 of The Call of the Wild will be read and discussed. In addition, students will use this text to practice skills learned during the mini-lessons.

On Friday, students will demonstrate their comprehension of the chapters they have read by completing a standard based quiz on Chapters 1-4. Finally, they will work on a mini comprehension check for Chapter 4 that is project-based.

Students will take Cold Assessment 1.2 on Monday. The rest of the week will be spent learning about plays and terms like monologue and soliloquy. On Wednesday, students will take their Cycle 3 vocabulary quiz . On Friday, teachers will update the data for each student in their folder.

Week 7

 The week before the holiday break has arrived!  Students will spend this week finishing up their poetry projects, taking Mini Cold Assessment 2.2, and writing an on-demand essay/workshopping it. Any student that has been out will have an opportunity to make up work and/or take the NWEA. Friday will be a 60% day where students will make sure all assignments are complete.

Week 3

 Literary Analysis writing is the focus of this week. Students will learn about the purpose and structure of this type of writing in addition to how to write introductions and conclusions.  Theme will be reviewed from last year and new concepts related to this topic will be introduced including its development over the course of a text.  They will use "The Golden Windows," "The Scholarship Jacket," and "Sleepy Hollow" to practice these skills.  Students will take a cold quiz on a poem on Monday.
