Week 1

We hope you enjoyed your Fall break!! In preparation for our field trip to the Saenger Theatre next week, we will read The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.  Reading this story will allow us to grapple with characterization, setting, and plot in a deeper level text. Legends from around the world will be compared and contrasted this week as well.

 Welcome Back! This short week will be spent doing remediation and makeup work. Students will be given a chance to finish any missed assignments. If a student is up to date, then they will work on practicing skills such as writing, recognizing themes, and multiple-choice using the short story, "The Sniper."

Week 2 - At Home Learning

Monday Reread “The Interlopers.” Watch a video on suspense and notice HOW authors create suspense. Make notes on how Saki creates suspense within the text.  Tuesday  Prepare to write an ending to the short story . Their ending must include... The same omniscient point of view setting/imagery An appropriate pace Dramatic Irony A Denouement to the plot.  Writing Prompt- You have just read a short story, “The Interlopers” by Saki. This text ends with a cliffhanger. Continue the short story by writing a denouement in an omniscient point of view. Outline/plan your writing.  Wednesday and Thursday. Write to the prompt 30 min. each day.  Revise and edit your narrative writing.   Score your narratives using the following scoring system: 4, 3, 2,1, 0

Week 6

The Call of the Wild will be completed this week. Students will begin the week with a quiz on Chapters 1-4. Then, they will read Chapters 5-7 and review skills such as conflict, summary, and gathering evidence with these chapters.  On Friday students will write an on-demand essay  for the book. In addition  to this book, students will begin reading O'Henry stories and learn about peripeteia. They will use these stories to practice other reading skills as well. On Thursday, students will take a cold quiz .
